Rival political student groups' clash left 31 injured

DHAKA, Bangladesh - Leaders and activists from the Chhatra League and the Chhatra Dal (student wings of the Awami League, AL, and Bangladesh National Party, BNP) clashed in the Dhaka University area on Tuesday, injuring at least 31 people.

When Chhatra Dal activists attempted to enter the university campus to hold a pre-scheduled press conference, the clash erupted.

According to Chhatra Dal activists, members of the Chhatra League attacked the Chhatra Dal with iron rods, hockey sticks, and sticks at the time.

This resulted in a 30-minute chase and counter-chase between the two parties from Central Shaheed Minar to Curzon Hall.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack injured at least 31 Chhatra Dal leaders and activists, including Senior Vice President of the party and Organizing Secretary of the central committee Abu Afsan Mohammad Yahya.

The University administration had to call the police to control the situation.
