CEBU CITY, Jan. 23 (PIA) -- The Department of Health in Region 7 (DOH-7) reported that the five-year old boy who arrived in Cebu from Wuhan, China is currently stable with no fever, cough, and other symptoms associated with the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019 nCoV).

As of this writing, the boy is still confined and under isolation with his mother while waiting for the tests sent out to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM).

As of now, DOH-7 assures the public that Central Visayas has no confirmed case of the 2019 nCoV, and what is confirmed is a case of non-specific coronavirus.

Baton stressed that they are closely monitoring both private and public hospitals around the region and has briefed medical staff in various hospitals how to tag, what to do, and how to refer anyone seeking medical assistance who have the symptoms of the coronavirus.

Baton and Dr. Shelbay Blanco from the DOH-7 epidemiology unit said a travel ban on the routes from China with direct flights to Cebu may be an option when there is a confirmed case already.

DOH-7 is urging the public to be vigilant in protecting themselves against respiratory tract infections by maintaining good health and proper hygiene. (smb/PIA7)
