ANZ Bank to outsource New Zealand jobs to India
Asia Pacific News.Net Wednesday 16th July, 2008 (IANS)
ANZ Bank will move 238 back office jobs from Wellington and Auckland to India. The announcement comes close on the heels of another of Australia's four leading banks, the National Australia Bank (NAB), announcing the outsourcing of 500 jobs to India by the year-end.
ANZ has started a two-week consultation process with workers at the bank's lending services centre in Auckland and customer transaction service centre in Wellington over sending jobs offshore to India, reports New Zealand Press Association (NZPA).
The news has been condemned by finance workers union Finsec, which Wednesday accused the Australian-owned bank of being greedy as the work is said to be done at a quarter of the cost in India.
Finsec campaigns director Andrew Campbell was quoted by NZPA as saying that 403 workers were told Tuesday that there would be 165 positions in the future, meaning 238 people would either be redeployed or made redundant.
Banks say that jobs are being outsourced to improve efficiency. While some staff are redeployed others are offered redundancy packages.
Other Australian banks that have outsourced IT jobs to India include Westpac, St George and the Commonwealth Bank. Email this story to a friend

ANZ Bank to outsource New Zealand jobs to India
Very simple really. ANZ has proved very clearly it’s usury profits are more important than the wellbeing of its New Zealand staff.
The answer should be simple: move your account.
I plan to.

Greed
I have been with ANZ bank for nearly twenty years but am now thinking of changing. I am sick of being contacted or trying to contact companies about matters that are important to me only to find that the person to whom I speak I cannot understand as there is alanguage difficulty. Come on ANZ, I really thoguth you were a better organsiation than that. Rethink your decision or face the conswequences.

You’re kidding. Another one. I emailed ANZ’s head office 6 weeks back when I was searching for an Australian bank that doesn’t outsource. They assured me they don’t and there was no plans of doing so. Not now, not in the future. Blatant lies. They would have known a mere 6 weeks ago!
Don’t they learn from those who have already done so? They will loose customers. Are they any banks left except for Bendigo Bank that doesn’t have their call centres in India? You just cannot have a call centre for a business like a bank in a country that doesn’t speak the same language (as their first language). There have been major stuff ups because the communication breakdown. All boils down to greed. They can pay someone in India around $400 a month as opposed to around $660 per week here and they obviously don’t care about customer service any longer.
Bendigo bank, here we come. Hope you’ll be able keep up with the rush of new customers you will no doubt be getting. Guess that’ll mean new branches for them and in turn, more employment for Australians.
